Impressions
The 24 Hour Experiment at Point Loma Playhouse was the ultimate test of every skill I'd developed as an actor. This intensive workshop compressed the entire creative process—from initial concept to live performance—into a single day, requiring instant collaboration, rapid character development, and unwavering commitment to creative choices without second-guessing. Working within such extreme time constraints taught me that overthinking can be the enemy of authentic performance. The workshop forced me to trust my instincts completely and make bold choices immediately, skills that have proven invaluable in auditions and professional situations requiring quick adaptation. Collaborating with writers and directors I'd never met before to create original material from scratch was both terrifying and exhilarating. The experience taught me how to quickly assess team dynamics, identify my strengths within a group, and contribute effectively under pressure. The knowledge that we would perform for a live audience after only 24 hours of development heightened every moment and demanded absolute presence and commitment. Watching other ensembles tackle the same challenge with completely different approaches expanded my understanding of creative processes and collaborative styles. The workshop proved that limitations can be liberating—having no time for extensive analysis or revision forced authentic, immediate choices that might have been overthought in longer development periods. This intensive experience enhanced my ability to work effectively in rapid development situations and taught me that great theater can emerge from controlled chaos when artists commit fully to the collaborative process.
