Impressions
Performing at Coronado School of the Arts as Violet gave me early experience with character-driven musical theater. Violet's personality—confident, sometimes cutting, but ultimately caring—required me to find the humanity behind what could easily become a one-note "mean girl" character. The challenge was making her moments of kindness feel genuine rather than forced, and her sharper comments feel like defense mechanisms rather than cruelty. Working with this ensemble taught me how each character in a tight-knit group serves a specific function in the emotional ecosystem. Violet's role as the sometimes harsh voice of reality helped me understand how supporting characters drive plot and reveal aspects of the leads. This production also helped me develop my musical theater voice and taught me that even familiar characters from popular sources require the same depth of analysis and commitment as any other role.
